Commercial refrigeration systems are often inherited when businesses move into new premises. While existing cold rooms and freezer rooms can provide a useful starting point, ageing refrigeration equipment, poor installation practices, and missing infrastructure frequently prevent the system from operating efficiently. Rather than replacing entire refrigeration rooms, strategic upgrades can significantly improve reliability, energy efficiency, and long-term operating performance.
This case study highlights how Glotech Group upgraded the commercial refrigeration system for Bin Rashied Goodwood after the restaurant acquired premises that already contained cold room and freezer facilities. Although the refrigeration rooms themselves were in place, the freezer condensing unit had failed, essential refrigeration pipework was missing, and the overall installation required modernisation before the business could begin operating.
By replacing the refrigeration plant, installing new refrigeration infrastructure, and carrying out a complete system upgrade, Glotech Group delivered a dependable refrigeration solution that continues to perform exceptionally well more than two years later.
When Bin Rashied opened its Goodwood branch, the property already included cold room and freezer facilities.
However, a detailed inspection quickly revealed that the existing installation was not ready for operation.
The freezer condensing unit was no longer functional, preventing the freezer from operating altogether.
In addition, there was no refrigeration pipework connecting the equipment, meaning the refrigeration system could not be commissioned even if the equipment had been operational.
Rather than attempting temporary repairs, Glotech Group recommended upgrading the refrigeration system to create a reliable long-term solution.
The project included:
This comprehensive approach ensured every critical part of the refrigeration system worked together efficiently.
The failed freezer condensing unit was removed and replaced with a modern commercial refrigeration unit selected to match the freezer’s cooling requirements.
Correct equipment sizing is essential for achieving:
Installing the correct refrigeration plant transformed the freezer from an unusable asset into a dependable part of the restaurant’s daily operations.
One of the biggest shortcomings of the inherited installation was the complete absence of refrigeration pipework.
Glotech Group installed new copper refrigeration lines for both the cold room and freezer, ensuring proper refrigerant flow and long-term reliability.
The pipework was installed according to recognised refrigeration engineering standards, with careful attention to routing, support, insulation, and accessibility for future servicing.
The upgrade also included the installation of a new electrical control box.
Modern refrigeration control systems improve safety, simplify maintenance, and provide more reliable operation compared with ageing electrical installations.
The new control panel was integrated with the refrigeration equipment to deliver dependable system control and protection.
To maximise refrigeration efficiency, Glotech Group adjusted the cold room and freezer doors to ensure proper sealing.
Poorly aligned doors allow warm air to enter refrigerated spaces, increasing compressor run time and encouraging condensation.
Commercial strip curtains were also installed to reduce cold air loss during frequent staff movement.
Together, these improvements help maintain stable temperatures while reducing energy consumption.

Before commissioning, both refrigeration systems received a full professional service.
The servicing programme included inspections, operational checks, refrigeration performance testing, and adjustments to ensure every component operated as intended.
Completing a full service before handover provided the client with confidence that both refrigeration rooms were ready for continuous commercial use.
The true measure of a successful refrigeration upgrade is how it performs over time.
Since completion in 2023, the upgraded refrigeration system has continued to operate exceptionally well.
The client has experienced:
The improvements transformed an incomplete and unreliable refrigeration installation into a dependable system that fully supports the restaurant’s operations.
The completed upgrade delivered:
Most importantly, Bin Rashied was able to open its new Goodwood branch with confidence, supported by refrigeration systems engineered for reliability and daily commercial use.
